In 2000 I started a filmproject on Franciscan missionaries in Papua. From a distant viewpoint I observe the exotic contrast between the people who live on this very isolated island in the Indonesian archipel and the missionaries, who, after the decolonisation in 1962, stayed in Papua to help the people to survive in the confrontation with the surrounding world.
